So many influences have brought me to this place, and I’m very excited about the journey ahead.
This is my story.
I learned to be resourceful.
I grew up on a small farm in South Africa, where working with your hands was a way of life. If something broke, you fixed it. If something was needed, you made it. From a young age, I was drawn to that way of living.
As a boy, I felt that God was close when I was building and creating things. I loved taking whatever I could find and turning it into something useful, interesting, or beautiful.
I was fascinated by how things worked, how they were put together, and how simple materials could become something with purpose. That curiosity never really left me.
I learned to work hard.
My building and creating developed into a love for old, vintage, well-made cars, especially air-cooled Volkswagens. I would fix, rebuild, and bring them back to life with my dad. This hobby gave me a deep appreciation for craftsmanship.
I learned to express myself with wood.
In school, I learned and fell in love with woodwork, which became the vehicle that propelled me into the life I have now. It was the trade I pursued after university, and ultimately the skill that helped bring my family and I to New Zealand.
I learned to understand form, proportion, and detail.
After school, I studied art. This is a part of me that some find surprising, but I love beauty and detail. I see it in woodgrain and old cars. In well-made furniture and oil paintings. In nature and God’s majestic and mysterious ocean.
These are my roots.
Living in South Africa is truly a wild and wonderful experience. It is a noisy, colourful, and joyful land that has left a deep mark on my soul and will always be part of who I am.
I learned to be strong.
In 2019, my family and I made the move to New Zealand. It was the start of an exciting new adventure. If you have moved to a different country, you’ll understand the grit and determination it takes to build a life somewhere new.
Yet New Zealand has been so good to us, and Tauranga has truly become our home. Aotearoa’s rich connection to moana, the ocean, and whenua, the land, is truly inspiring. The values of farming, fishing, diligent work, and a deep respect for nature resonate with me.
Here, I have continued developing my skills as a wood craftsman.
But another dream began to take shape.
Bezoo Surf Co. was born.
This place has inspired me to create something.
Something beautiful.
Something hardworking.
Something strong.
Something well-crafted.
Something that feels like home.
Something that leaves a legacy.
This is only the beginning.
Through these hollow timber surfboards, I bring together every influence that has shaped me: craftsmanship, art, adventure, family, faith, and a deep respect for the natural world.
Every hollow timber surfboard is handcrafted one at a time. No two boards are alike. Each carries its own character, grain, patterns, and story.
In a world filled with mass-produced products, Bezoo Surf Co. hopes to create something meaningful.
These boards are intentionally designed to be surfed, displayed, and eventually passed on. They are functional art, but they are also heirlooms. Objects that connect craftsmanship, beauty, and adventure across generations.
Commission A Board
Every Bezoo board begins with a conversation. Tell us how you surf, the waves you ride, and the board you've always wanted. Together we'll create a handcrafted surfboard built specifically for you.
